It's not uncommon for people to be more interested in Buddhist practices as they get older. This can be a result of wearing jewelry. The most commonly used types of Buddhist jewelry worn by men and women are pendant necklaces depicting the Buddha or other sacred Buddhist symbols. Buddhism is a way of teaching that happiness is not found in external possessions. Dharma items can be purchased with the intention to improve our practice. This kind of materialism, however, can be described as a form skilled means. It may encourage us to apply more spiritual traits like compassion tolerance, forgiveness, and tolerance throughout our lives. This makes our practice an opportunity to awaken and eternal bliss. Although materialism would not be an aspect we consider to be spiritual however, some Buddhist teachers have warned their students of the dangers of it in your own practice. Chogyam Trungpa, a Tibetan Buddhist master, popularly coined "spiritual materialism" when he wrote his book cutting Through Spiritual Materialism. He described in detail the ways that spiritualists use spirituality to enhance their individuality, egograsping and other blunders. Our spiritual practice is meant to reduce our egocentricity only seems to fuel it. The self-centered ego can change everything to its advantage. This is more common than we think that it could take the form of feeling great pride in the spiritual experience, going to the most profound teachings of famous teachers simply to say we went there, or thinking that we are spiritual merely due to the spiritual items that we are surrounded by.

The risk is that Dharma products could be used to be identified as Buddhists, and put too excessive emphasis on what it means to be Buddhist. Our spiritual teachers, teachings, or practices (as as opposed to items for practice or clothing) are not objects which boost our pride and lead us further into self-gratification. Everything that is part of the Buddhist Path is meant to soothe the mind and heart and lessen selfish grasping in order to be more compassionate, kind, and aware the fundamental Buddhist principles that guide our daily lives (such the Four Noble Truths). See the recommended Buddha Necklaces for more info.

To be a Buddhist practitioner is to look at ways of practicing and developing our spiritual abilities in every situation that we encounter throughout the day. It doesn't matter if have a solid understanding of the teachings or a deep understanding of Pali scriptures. The effects of the teachings must be similar to adding sweet milk into water. They should be able to blend with our thoughts to ensure that the Buddhist principles and our daily lives are not separated. If the Buddhist teachings or practices do not help us become more conscious gentle and humble and instead strengthen our egos, then it's time to think carefully at the ways we can (or do not manage) to incorporate the teachings into our daily lives. The primary reason to purchase Buddhist items to be used to practice our own practices is to help us remember. Buddhist teachers often give pendants to their students (like those below) due to this reason. These can be an auspicious and meaningful present to others in the event that they are purchased solely because of the image. Below are some explanations of some Buddhist imagery on Buddhist pendants as well as earrings, rings and rings together with a few Amazon products.

Buddha - Wearing images of the Buddha will help us be more like Buddha in the things we do. It may inspire us to be more gentle, patient in our words and be mindful of cultivating thoughts of peace and non-violence. Because of its symbolism the Buddha's image, there are pendants that show only the hands and head of the Buddha. I recommend that you choose ones that show the entire body of the Buddha. The Buddha is likely to be depicted in a meditative pose or in the earth-touching position. This is a symbol of the time that the Buddha requested the Earth to witness his enlightenment. Follow the recommended Om Mani Padme Hum Bracelets for information.

Lotus - Wearing a lotus can remind us that every day holds the opportunity for spiritual gifts like compassion, wisdom contentment and love. Lotus symbolizes that spiritual qualities can flourish even in the midst of suffering and Samsara is similar to how the lotus emerges from a muddy pond. No matter what challenges that we encounter in our lives there is always a choice to practice wholesome positive states of mind such as tolerance and compassion. Like the lotus, it takes time to emerge from darkness and mud , it may also require time. With a little effort and joy, our mind will transform into something wonderful and radiant and be able to find the way to awakening. In Buddhist images, Buddhas and bodhisattvas are often standing or sitting on lotuses. This symbolises the truth that Buddhas or bodhisattvas, because of their pure mind/achievements are able to remain in Samsara to help sentient beings.

Wheel of Dharma -- Wearing the Wheel of Dharma, which is an emblem of the Buddha's teachings, may help to remind us of the Buddha's teachings. It could also grant us the power to speak the Buddhas teachings when we teach others. The Wheel of Dharma (also known as the Dharmachakra) symbolizes the Buddha's instructions. The wheel with eight spokes is commonly used to represent the Noble Eightfold Path. This includes Right View, Right Action Right Mindfulness, Right View, and the Right action. Sometimes, the center of the wheel can be divided into three pieces and are usually known as the Three Jewels (the Buddha Dharma Sangha), The circular shape of this wheel may also represent the belief that one has to be born every day until one wakes up. The Buddha was believed to have an impression of a ten thousand-spoke wheel on each of his soles of his feet and hands. The Wheel of Dharma is one of the eight auspicious symbols associated to the Buddha. See the recommended Buddha Pendants for more information.
